We have an appointment system, and our standard consultation is 15 minutes. We encourage patients to request their preferred Doctor. If the GP is completely booked, we can usually offer an alternative GP on the same day or the earliest available appointment with your preferred GP.
Please ask the receptionist for a longer appointment if you feel you will need more time than usual, as this will prevent Doctors from running late with their appointments. Urgent appointments are available on the day for patients requiring urgent attention.
Appointment Not Attended
If you do not attend your appointment, we require 3 hours’ notice of cancellation; otherwise, a non-attendance fee of $50.00 will be charged, which must be paid before another appointment is accepted.
Waiting Time
We value your time as our patient, and our doctors strive to minimise wait times. Sometimes this is out of our control if our doctors have to attend to emergency or urgent care, and this may result in increased waiting time. We appreciate your patience, and we thank you for your understanding.
Results
The Doctors at this Practice require that you make a follow-up appointment to discuss your test results. Results are given over the phone at the Doctor’s discretion. If the Doctor wants you to return before your follow-up appointment, our Practice staff will contact you. When you have any test done, we ask that you make an appointment to discuss the result with the GP at the appropriate time, once we have received the results.
Home Visits
Our home visit service is at the doctor’s discretion
Scripts Referral and Medical Certificates
If you need a script or a referral to a specialist or allied health provider from your GP, please book an appointment to see the doctor.
Please book an appointment to see your GP if you need a sick certificate. Our doctors do not backdate Medical certificates.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Your medical record is a confidential document. Our Practice complies with Australian Government Legislation, ensuring that the privacy of our patients is maintained. A copy of our privacy policy is available at the reception.
Further information is available from the office of the Australian Information Commissioner on 1300 363 992
Referral for Tests
There may be out-of-pocket costs if you are referred for services such as pathology, imaging, specialist or allied health. Our Practice staff will advise you of the fees for all the tests, investigations and services when you are referred. In situations where this is not possible, you will be provided with the telephone number to make enquiries about the cost of your test or services you are referred for.
Emails
The privacy risk associated with electronic communication may prevent us from sending you sensitive information via email. To this effect, our Practice encrypts all emails to prevent your information from falling into the wrong hands. In cases where you are unable to decrypt the mail, we will require written consent from you before sending you an email.
Communication
Our Doctors will respond to your emails within 24 hours. We encourage you to call the Practice if it is an urgent matter. Our email address is reception@bbkfamilymedicalpractice.com.au
Reminder System
We have an internal electronic reminder system for pap smears, immunisation and follow-ups. If you do not wish to be placed on this system, please inform the Doctor, Nurse, or reception staff when you attend. Please update your contact details when there is a change.
Our Practice also supports the State and National registers, such as the Cervical Screening and Breast-Screen registers. If you prefer not to be part of these reminder systems, please advise your GP.
Continuity of Care
We encourage patients to schedule appointments with their preferred doctor. If the Doctor is unavailable, we will offer an alternative doctor who is available on the same day.
Health Information
We prioritise privacy and confidentiality in this Practice. We encourage all our patients to update their personal information, including names, addresses and contact numbers. We also expect that your emergency contact details, including names, phone numbers, and addresses, are current and accurate. This will enable us to contact you if necessary. We also encourage patients to advise the Doctors or the reception staff of their cultural background.
Should you require access to your health information, our Practice staff will provide you with the necessary paperwork to complete, allowing us to release your health information. The process requires a fee of $30.00.
Translator Services
If you speak another language, we can arrange for an interpreter to be present. We can also arrange a translator for individuals who are hearing-impaired. We engage the services of the National Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS).
Please advise us when you book your appointment.
